Atonement

Can salvation be expedited if I trade in one sin for another? I’ll cash in all the bodies, all the promises, and buy a ticket back to Innocence. Paradise chewed me up and spit me out, now all I want to do is go home. I’m through with splitting my body into distraction. My capacity for guilt is bursting at the seams. Atrophy of conscience has me praying for deliverance.

I’ve had enough of falling apart and letting strangers build me back up into their sadistic fantasies. My knees are weak from giving in and falling at the feet of all those false gods. How many saviors have dragged me down for slaughter? How much more disappointment?

All these kings in their paper crowns: disposable heroes. I’ve got their diamonds lined up on the edge of my bed, where I sleep with the Executioner behind their backs.

I never needed their protection. I don’t want it anymore.

I’m coming home to that little, broken girl.

Coming home for good.
